IVF

Well I started on the BCP today and go for the injection class in the morning. I was expecting that our retrieval and transfer would be towards the end of April or so... not the case.  After speaking with our nurse this afternoon, I will only be on BCP for 10 days then start the medications.  The retrieval date is April 11th with a transfer on April 14th or 16th.  I think the reality just set in this afternoon that it will be within the next 30 days! OMG!!!  I am a little nervous...why?? I am trying to figure out how to work around my work schedule.  I am the director of a non-profit agency and April is one of my busiest months.  I have a Federal grant that is due sometime in April and a grant presentation on April 13th or 14th (which is the same week on our transfer!) I know that it will all fall together and work out, just nervous with the timeline and making sure I have plenty of time for rest and relaxation.

2 questions:  How long are you supposed to rest after the retrieval?  How long do you rest after the transfer??   I'm trying to look ahead and map my days out strategically to take off from work or work from home :)

  2. How exciting! Be prepared for things not to happen exactly as they say. They estimate how long you'll be on meds, etc, but the reality is they need to wait to see how you respond to the drugs to know when your retrieval will be.

As for rest, you generally have to take the day of the retrieval off because you're under anesthesia (someone has to take you home). With my second (and successful!) IVF cycle I took of the day of the transfer and the day after. My clinic says you can go right back to work after, but most folks I know take off at least a day. Can't wait to hear all about it!

  5. Yay! I think V took the day of the retrieval off and maybe the day after. Then after transfer she stayed in bed for a couple of days. I really don't think that is necessary, but we were being cautious. I'll say, though, that after the transfer we stopped at a Jewish deli for lunch, and V swears that did it. :)

  7. I actually timed my 1st retrieval to my work schedule. I had them put me on BCP for an extra week so that the transfer would be after the school year ended. I had to ask, but it might be worth it for you to push things back a few weeks.

I didn't take the day after the retrieval off, and felt like shit and wished I had. As for the transfer, bed rest is a caution not a medical necessity, but most people recommend 48 hours.
